Red Japanese Maple 5 Seeds, Acer Palmatum Intensive Color

Red Japanese Maple- 5 Viable Seeds

The Red Maple tree is famous throughout the country for brilliant red foliage that seems almost the trademark of fall. Red Maple Trees are incredibly versatile. Any Red Maple boasts a wide-range of growing zones, and works as a practical shade tree as well as a beautiful showpiece. Aside from being VERY fast growing, the Red Maple is also praised for its cold hardiness, soil adaptability, and pest/disease resistance.
This red leaf Japanese maple has finely-divided,
lacy leaves of a deep red in the spring but foliage
color fades to light green in early summer (Fig. 1).
Leaves take on a beautiful golden, orange or red color
in fall. A small, deciduous tree with delicate, upright
branches, 'Atropurpureum' Japanese maple reaches a
height and spread of about 20 feet , forming a vase
shaped specimen tree. The multiple trunks are
picturesque and show nicely when lit up at night from
beneath the canopy. This cultivar of Japanese maple
is grown for its colored leaves and interesting growth habit.

Sowing

Removed the wing of the seed and place them in a paper bag and store them in a cool dry place until you are ready for them.
On or about the 100th day prior to your target planting date leave them in the hot water overnight then place the seeds in a plastic bag with a mixture of sand and peat or other suitable mix. Even light potting soil will work. The peat or soil should be moist, but not soaking wet. Poke some holes in the bag so there is some air circulation, and place the bag in your refrigerator for a period of 100 days.
After 100 days you can plant the seeds outside. To plant the seeds just sow them on top of a bed of well drained topsoil or sterilized potting soil, and cover with approximately 3/8" of soil. Water them thoroughly, but allow the soil to dry out completely before watering thoroughly again.
If you water them frequently, not only do you stand a chance of the seeds rotting from being too wet, but you will also keep them cool, which will slow down the germination process. Once they start to germinate provide about 50% shade to keep the sun from burning them. Snow fence suspended about 30" above the bed will provide about 50% shade.
