Sweetly scented carpet of lavender flowers, we don't think you'll do better than choose this plant. This classic summer bedding plant blooms for months on end. Brilliant flowers cover the low-growing, mound-shaped plants from June to September and brighten up the dullest of days. Alyssum does well in virtually any soil or position, and is delightful in beds, rockeries or edging a path.
The low growing plants become smothered in tiny, lavender flowers all summer long.
SOWING Sow alyssum seed outdoors as soon as the ground can be worked, or as late as midsummer. May be started indoors in March. Place seeds 1/2 inch apart in rows 4 to 6 inches apart. Barely cover seed with fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until seeds sprout.
THINNING When alyssum plants are 2 inches tall, thin or transplant 6 to 8 inches apart in the row.
GERMINATION Alyssum seed germinates in 10 to 15 days depending on soil temperature and weather conditions.
